A Portfolio That Gets You Hired Without Experience

The highest-leverage decision in the course: read real postings, extract the tasks that repeat, and build the same kind of artifact the job produces instead of a tutorial clone everyone else also has. Then cut it down, because unfinished work is worth zero: the "one problem, one outcome" test, a one-page brief that bounds the job, and why three small finished pieces beat one abandoned ambitious one.

The write-up matters more than the output, because hiring managers read for judgement. A structure that works in any field (problem, constraints, what you rejected, what you decided and why), plus the container it lives in: a plain page a stranger can read in five minutes, and one round of outside feedback before you send it.

Never present unpaid or self-initiated work as paid client work, and never use a real company’s brand without saying plainly that it was unsolicited. Overstating provenance gets discovered in the interview and costs you the trust, not just the point. The exact one-line labels that keep you clean, the softer overstatements that trip people up, and a closing plan for the projects you’re actually building.
